Are Sparrows Nest products All Natural? Some
items, like the solid butter bars and balms are, yes. Sparrows Nest does
not include preservatives in these items and emulsifying is not needed.
Other items are 90-99% natural with the great majority of ingredients
being carefully processed without the use of any chemicals. Coconut Oil (expeller pressed) High quality refined coconut oil. This oil is also not hydrogenated, and contains no trans fatty acids. It is suitable oil for dry and/or sensitive skin and does not normally clog pores. Coconut oil absorbs readily into the skin and is often used in the soap making industry because of its resistance to rancidity (naturally long shelf life) and contribution to a good, hard soap with a wonderful, fluffy lather. Coconut oil is light and non-greasy. Palm Oil (expeller pressed) The Palm fruit is reddish, about the size of a large plum and grows in large bunches. Each fruit contains a single seed (the palm kernel) surrounded by a soft oily pulp. Palm Oil is extracted from the pulp of the fruit. The Palm Oil that is used in Sparrows Nest soaps is refined and light yellowish in color. This oil is not hydrogenated, and contains no trans fatty acids. While Palm Oil is high in many essential fatty acids and other nutrients, the primary reason for choosing to use it in their soaps is the firmness that it adds. Olive Oil (virgin, cold expeller pressed) Olive oil is one of the only oils that can remain cold during pressing. The oil released during the first press is known as “Virgin” oil and has been used since biblical times - during that era the virgin oil was so prized that it was normally used as anointing oil for religious purposes and further pressing of the olives would result in oil for consumption. Olive oil is used for its anti-inflammatory, regeneration properties and aids in maintaining moisture in the skin without impeding normal skin functions. Sweet Almond Oil (expeller pressed) Wonderful for all skin types *unless nut allergy or sensitivity is present* Very rich in fatty acids as well as vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E, this oil is common to fine skin care products. You will find it to be delightful in body & massage oils, lotions and balms. It helps to recondition skin and is an extremely gentle emollient that is well suited for eczema, psoriasis or otherwise irritated, dry skin. Sweet almond oil is light in color, texture and is readily absorbed. Avocado Oil (expeller pressed, refined) This highly therapeutic oil is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B5, D and E, minerals, protein, lecithin and fatty acids. Highly useful to those with skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, and other skin ailments as well as people with sensitive skin. It is believed that Avocado oil has healing and regenerating qualities. Grapeseed Oil (expeller pressed, partially refined) This oil has a naturally occurring, slightly nutty aroma and it is noticeable in unscented finished products. It is not at all unpleasant and is one of the characteristics of grapeseed oil that is only lightly refined. Sparrow’s nest uses a food grade oil that is has a rich green tone. This oil is noted for outstanding ability to be used on many skin types and rarely causes any irritation or allergic reaction, even in people with sensitive skin. Grapeseed oil is wonderful massage oil and is widely used by massage therapists for its light, slippery feel as well as the high vitamin and fatty acid content that is nourishing to skin. Grapeseed oil is especially nice on mature/dry skin. Jojoba Oil (natural golden, expeller pressed) A highly penetrating liquid wax which most closely resembles our natural sebum. Sparrow’s Nest uses Jojoba in lotions, oil blends and soap and it is a main ingredient in the facial care products. It is also included in Facial To Go kits to be used straight for removing excess oils and aiding in the balance of natural skin oils. Jojoba contains a natural anti-inflammatory called “myristic acid” which makes it particularly well suited for arthritis, rheumatism and other inflammatory conditions. The natural anti-oxidants in Jojoba give it a long shelf life and in many finished products helps to resist rancidity. Safflower Oil (expeller pressed, enriched with Vitamin E) Very soothing and moisturizing to skin. Light in both color and texture and a very faint (almost floral) scent naturally occur in this oil. Soybean Oil (chemically processed natural oil) An oil that is high in naturally occurring lecithin, sterolins and vitamin E, this oil is great in products for healing the outer layers of skin. Soybean oil is easily absorbed and leaves a smooth sensation to the skin and the majority of users get beautiful results from the Silky Soy Lotion! Sparrow’s Nest also uses soybean oil in the majority of their soaps. If you are sensitive to soybean products or have a soy allergy, please look for *allergy friendly* items. Soybean oil is oil with much controversy- some people are very pro-soy and others believe it to be one of America’s most genetically modified vegetables. Sparrows Nest is currently using high quality food grade soybean oil and are researching for a supplier of expeller pressed & certified organic oil, to increase the health benefits our skin receives from their handmade products. Cocoa Butter (expeller pressed) A solid fat from the roasted Cocoa seeds that has a natural rich chocolaty scent. It is a great emollient that is extremely popular for adding flexibility to the skin and has been long used to aid in the soothing (and sometimes prevention) of stretch marks. The Sparrow’s Nest cocoa butter is NOT deodorized or bleached; it has a golden color and deep chocolate scent. Shea
Butter (expeller pressed)
Unrefined butter from the vegetable
fat of the Karite Tree from Africa. While it is becoming one of the more
popular trends in American cosmetics in recent times, this rich butter
has long been the first choice among those in the know for its healing
properties. It is has become the first choice in natural skin care and
fine body care. Shea butter forms a breathable, water-resistant film and
is an ideal natural product for moisturizing. This butter can be used
directly on the skin. Sparrows
Nest uses Emulsifying Wax (NF)
in each lotion and cream
formulas. This is a reliable and safe product for successfully
emulsifying (mixing) the oils and water in these items. While being
derived largely from natural sources, it has been processed to a point
that they no longer consider it a natural ingredient. It is a widely
used and well-loved product with no adverse reactions. It is used at
minimal rates to achieve correct consistency and keep the emulsion from
separating. |
